Great minds in the Smart City Berlin network
In 2016, BPWT relocated the FIWARE Foundation to Berlin, an open source community initiated and funded by the European Commission. The founding consortium consisted of Telefonica, Atos, Orange and Engineering. Berlin was chosen because of its dynamic start-up landscape and the local support of Berlin Partner, DLR and BMWi. Since 2022, CEO Ulrich Ahle has been very active in the Smart City Berlin network coordinated by us and has even joined us as a co-exhibitor at trade fairs. Since 1 November 2023, Ulrich Ahle has chaired the GAIA-X European Association for Data and Cloud in Brussels. We wish him every success in Brussels! Andrea Battaglia is the new CEO at FIWARE.
The Data Competence Centre for Cities and Regions (DKSR) came to Berlin in 2020 and has also been on the road with us at trade fairs since 2021. DKSR has become a valued partner in the Smart City network. The founder and mastermind of the DKSR is Alanus von Radecki, who we already know from his previous work at the Fraunhofer IAO, where he set up the Fraunhofer Morgenstadt network. He is now one of two German experts working in an international working group to develop guidelines for people-centred smart cities based on a UN resolution. We are looking forward to the working group's initial findings!
Our long-standing honorary Smart City Network spokesperson Claudia Rathfux has switched from Stromnetz Berlin to Netzgesellschaft Berlin-Brandenburg, where she took over as commercial director on 1 January 2014.
Congratulations!
