When an individual is being rescued every single minute counts. Volunteers with diverse skills and capabilities can help in certain emergencies. Yet alone in Berlin, around 3,600 relevant missions take place yearly. KATRETTER provides control stations with the opportunity of alerting volunteers in the close vicinity of an emergency situation via smartphone app. The voluntary helpers recieve relevant information regarding the mission and identify themselves with a pin or fingerprint (depending on the smartphone). Considering their registered qualifications, the voluntary emergency responders fulfill their duties before professional rescue teams arrive at the scene. In some cases they also function to assist the rescue team with simple actions. The KATRETTER system chooses the helpers of an emergency anonymously, solely considering their registered qualifications.
