Berlin TXL - The Urban Tech Republic

The former Tegel Airport is making room for Berlin. A research and industrial park for urban technologies is being built on the 500-hectare site: Berlin TXL - The Urban Tech Republic, a new residential district: the Schumacher Quartier, and a 200-hectare landscape area. In the Urban Tech Republic, up to 1,000 large and small companies with 20,000 employees will research, develop and produce. And more than 2,500 students will move into the former terminal building with the renowned Berlin University of Applied Sciences. A total of around 5,000 students are expected to populate the Berlin TXL campus.
The focus of Berlin TXL is on what keeps the growing metropolises of the 21st century alive: the efficient use of energy, sustainable construction, environmentally friendly mobility, recycling, the networked control of systems, clean water and the use of new materials. The State of Berlin has commissioned Tegel Projekt GmbH to develop and manage the projects. The tasks of Tegel Projekt GmbH include the revision of the master plan, brand development, structural engineering and the technical, energy and transport infrastructure, as well as sales and communication of the projects to the public.
