Gemeinsam Digital: Berlin annual conference 2026

What exactly does resilience mean? This was the focus of this year’s Gemeinsam Digital: Berlin annual conference, which took place for the fourth time at Berlin’s Rotes Rathaus in early September. A review by CityLAB Berlin.

Resilience must be considered from a city-wide perspective, drawing on specialist knowledge and practical experience from a range of sectors. And it is precisely this interlinking of interdisciplinary expertise that has emerged in recent years as part of the implementation of Berlin’s Smart City Strategy "Gemeinsam Digital: Berlin"(GD:B). For the fourth year running, experts from the public sector, academia, civil society and the business community came together in the ballroom of Berlin’s Rotes Rathaus to exchange insights, knowledge and experiences at the Gemeinsam Digital: Berlin annual conference. Primary focus was on the question: How is the concept of resilience embedded in Berlin’s Smart City Strategy?

The five Berlin GD:B initiatives developed as part of the ‘Smart Cities Model Projects’ programme, funded by the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Construction (BMWSB), were also presented – ranging from the Kiezbox to Hardenbergplatz. These initiatives demonstrated that resilience brings together various aspects that come into play in a functioning city.
