Frequently, renewable energies are produced decentrally. This is particularly a challenge for the market mechanism, which is increasingly becoming smart. The EU-project, FLEXCoop, engages with the topic of renewable energy and thereby considers the perspective of the end consumer. The project develops technologies and business models, which regulate private power consumptions in an intelligent manner. It also enables access to the electricity market for so called prosumers. Prosumers are participants that produce and consume simultaneously. This is how an open market is formed, with decentralised consumers and producers of renewable energies.

By offering the Open Smart Box (OSB), FLEXCoop provides a device for energy management at home, as well as a platform, which supplies an interoperable communication between numerous heterogeneous sources. FLEXCoop is tested and evaluated in two pilot projects. The pilots are members of two energy cooperations in Spain and the Netherlands.
Fraunhofer FOKUS is in charge of developing the entire architecture of the FLEXCoop systems and technology for the trade platform
