SAFARI - Automated driving in Berlin

On the premises of the ‘Digitales Testfeld Stadtverkehr‘ in Reinickendorf, a fleet of vehicles will test the limits of the sensorics of automated and linked vehicles within the scope of SAFARI. During this project, automated vehicles licensed to drive autonomously but with safety drivers compete with serial vehicles equipped with a camera technology ready for production and equipped with smartphones. In doing this a direct communication between signal plants and vehicles is implemented with a so-called ‘Vehicle2Infrastructure-technology‘ as well as tackling the effects of continuous traffic and an improved efficiency of traffic performance. The Senate- and district administration also aims at using the data obtained from the Safari project to digitalise administrative tasks.
