Vattenfall Wärme Berlin AG
Vattenfall Wärme Berlin is the partner for Berlin, its neighbourhoods and people in the field of heating. We offer environmentally friendly energy from a single source - from generation and distribution to the customer. Our future-oriented heating solutions are one hundred percent local. We accelerate the urban heat revolution and support the growing city of Berlin on its way to climate neutrality.
In a joint climate protection agreement with the State of Berlin, we committed to half our CO2 emissions by 2020. We already achieved this target ahead of schedule in 2017. Together with the State of Berlin, we are shaping the coal phase-out by 2030 at the latest.
Our generation plants are becoming more efficient and flexible. We use natural gas as a lower-emission fuel and utilise waste heat as well as sustainable, regional biomass in the form of woodchips.
Our investments in new high-efficiency combined heat and power (CHP) plants already take into account their technical suitability for the use of green hydrogen.
In addition, CHP plants are being supplemented by technologies such as "power-to-heat" with the aim of bringing more renewable energies into urban heating. Heat storage systems complement this smart combination. Other examples on the way to CO2-neutral generation include the use of industrial waste heat that flows into the urban heating system, for example from the Berlin porcelain manufacturer KPM. Or the integration of solar thermal energy. Another example is the integration of solar thermal power.
Together we drive Berlin, when it comes to climate-friendly and reliable urban heat supply.
