DIN Deutsches Institut für Normung e. V.

DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, was founded in 1917 and is the independent platform for standardization in Germany and worldwide. As a partner of business, research and society, DIN plays a key role in supporting the marketability of innovative solutions through standardization - whether in topics related to the digitization of business and society or in the context of research projects.

More than 35,000 experts from business and research, from the consumer side and the public sector contribute their expertise to the standardization process, which DIN manages as a privately organized project manager. The results are market-driven norms and standards that promote global trade and serve rationalization, quality assurance, protection of society and the environment, and safety and understanding.

DIN is involved in several research projects on smart cities. With the Smart City Standards Forum (SCSF), DIN has also created an information and networking platform for stakeholders and users from municipalities, politics, civil society, business, associations, research and technical rule makers.
